This Saturday January 23 Rosehill Gardens will run their next race meeting, the prestigious Racing Rewards Inglis Classic Race Day.

The major drawcard of the day is the $250 000 Inglis Classic (1200m), which is restricted to two year old horses purchased at the Inglis Classic sale last year, and has a field of ten impressive youngsters ready to make their mark.

Only two fillies are contesting the event, Chance Bye and Boomshakalaka. The Marc Conners-trained Boomshakalaka has drawn the coveted barrier one and will be ridden by Tye Angland.

But it is Chance Bye, drawn wide with the far outside barrier ten that has been named as the one to beat. Trained by Michael Tubman, the undefeated daughter of Snitzel is coming off a thrilling win in the Inglis Nursery (1000m) at Randwick and has been installed as the odds-on favourite for Saturday.

She is sure to face some formidable competition as the high calibre of rivals includes the Grahame Begg-trained Ilovethiscity (br. 6) due to be ridden by star hoop Nash Rawiller, and Rick Worthington’s Third Man, drawn ideally in barrier two.

Third Man is by the same thriving first season sire as the warm favourite Chance Bye, Snitzel.

The Mark de Montfort-trained Travaldo has finally had some success with the barrier draw, the young gelding jumping from barrier four. Travaldo has drawn poorly in the majority of his starts, but on Saturday with Mitchell Bell aboard he will be making the most of his natural gate speed and hopefully find a forward position early on.

The Racing NSW Rewards Club Inglis Classic is scheduled to run as race five at the meeting’s cracker eight-event programme and will jump at 3:50pm (NSW time).

This Saturday January 16th the esteemed Rosehill Gardens will host their next race meeting. The day will feature eight fantastic races, the highlight event of the meeting being the $100 000 Listed Schweppes Frank Underwood Cup (2000m).

Gaining much attention is five-year-old Rainbow Styling trained by the Hawkes team including Hall Of Fame inductee John Hawkes, the Zabeel gelding is attempting his third successive victory. Rainbow Styling has drawn wide with barrier nine in the ten-horse field but is still highly fancied to take out the Frank Underwood after his solid last start win in the Listed Tattersalls Cup over the same 2000m distance.

Rainbow Styling will be ridden by Jim Cassidy, who partnered the horse for his Tattersalls Cup victory and is back from suspension just in time for Saturday.

The Anthony Cummings-trained Adelaide Cup winner Zavite has been allocated the heaviest weight of 59kg, the seven-year-old due to be ridden by heavyweight hoop Glyn Schofield from barrier five.

Starting on the inside of Zavite is Rabbuka, trained by Gai Waterhouse and ridden on Saturday by Nash Rawiller.

Meanwhile the Peter Snowden’s ever consistent Spinney has secured barrier one.

The Listed Frank Underwood Cup is scheduled as race six on Saturday.

Last Saturday December 12 Rosehill Gardens Racecourse hosted a bumper day of racing headlined by the Listed $100 000 Christmas Cup (2400m) where the Tim Martin-trained Scouting Wide claimed a thrilling all-the-way victory.

The in-form five-year-old, Scouting Wide ($5.50) proved himself as a genuine stayer when he held on to defeat his seven rivals in the 2400m test, after setting a rapid pace straight from the gates.

The Chris Waller-trained outsider Bright Mind ($21) was a neck back as runner-up, three lengths ahead of the favourite at $2.20, Bart Cummings’ Star Ripper in third.

Scouting Wide’s career record now stands at three wins from 11 career starts for over $180 000 in prizemoney.

Scouting Wide is by the legendary Cambridge sire, Zabeel who has now sired 122nd stakes winners.

Eight quality races were conducted on the day and other wins included Zampara in race three, the Tony and Manera Lahood Handicap (2000m). The lightly raced seven-year-old gelding will now be aimed at the Group 3 Summer Cup (2400m) on Boxing Day where he might come up against Christmas Cup winner Scouting Wide.

Darley trainer Peter Snowden reigned supreme at Rosehill Gardens Christmas Cup Day last Saturday claiming victory in four of the eight quality races conducted on the day.

His quartet of winners included brother and sister Pinwheel and Counterpane who claimed successive victories in the TAB Number 1 Club Handicap (1200m) and the www.theraces.com.au Handicap (1200m).

The result was Snowden’s second highest number of winners at a single race meeting, having previously trained five champions at the same raceday, but the brother and sister feat was a first.

Pinwheel, a four-year-old gelding, and Counterpane, a three-year-old filly, are by former racing great Lonhro out of Quilt.

Snowden also saw victory in the Gold Coast International Hotel Handicap (1200m) with Killian and in the Jim Beam Handicap (1200m) with his gifted mare Clothing.

The impressive Rosehill assault has rapidly improved Snowden’s stocks for the Sydney Trainers Premiership this season as his tally of wins now stands at 28, just five behind the leader Chris Waller. Snowden is looking to atone for his second place to Gai Waterhouse in last season’s premiership.
