Concorde Stakes 2010 Betting Preview

August 27th, 2010

The Group 3 Concorde Stakes will be run at Rosehill Racecourse on Saturday, starting at 2:40PM as race 4.

Top of the odds at SportsBet are Reward For Effort and Patronyme at $3.80.

Reward For Effort shot to fame last year by handily winning the Group 1 Blue Diamond Stakes. The plucky runner has more recently won the Sir John Monash Stakes and looks a good chance to take the Concorde Stakes before moving on to bigger things later this season.

A win bet on Reward For Effort at SportsBet is looking good, and a place bet looks almost certain to pay off.

Patronyme has a lot more experience, but that experience has been quite mixed. The current faith in Patronyme may be due to a Birthday Card Stakes win earlier this year and a recent exceptional barrier trial run. Nevertheless, it is hard to favour the mare above Reward For Effort, who has better momentum.

A place bet on Patronyme at SportsBet could be worthwhile, but a win seems unlikely in the face of better competition. An exacta of Reward For Effort/Patronyme has its charms.

The other likely contender is Winter King at $4.80 in the Concorde Stakes odds at SportsBet. This is a step back up in competition for the 4 year old, and it seems odd that he is being backed so strongly. However, a barrier 2 start could make all the difference, and definitely puts Winter King in with a shot.
